The Los Angeles Clippers announced the re-signing of "Big Baby" Glen Davis via team release.

While the release did not include contract details (or, somewhat oddly, comments from anyone), the deal is reportedly a one-year agreement at the $1.23 million league minimum for someone with Davis' seven years of experience.

What's more important for the Clippers, however, is that Davis' deal will only count as $915,243 for the purposes of luxury tax calculations, thanks to a wrinkle in the collective bargaining agreement used to dissuade teams from only signing younger, cheaper minimum-contract players.

That's important for L.A. because of their precarious salary cap position. With a reported $78.8 million committed to 11 players before the signing, according to Sham Sports, the Clippers only had $2.2 million beneath the tax apron to sign players. The Clippers triggered the tax apron - an $80.8 million hard cap - by using the non-taxpayer mid-level exception on Spencer Hawes, meaning they can't cross that salary figure at any point during the season.

After Davis' salary is accounted for, the Clippers will have another $1.15 million below the apron to signing a 13th man to the roster, once they've renounced their rights to Ryan Hollins and Hedo Turkoglu.
