LeBron James is the most popular male athlete in America, according to a new Harris Poll.

A survey of 2,241 people in the United States selected the former Miami Heat star as No. 1 for the first time in his career. His highest ranking previously was No. 2 last season.

According to Darren Rovell of ESPN, James fell completely out of the top 10 the year after his 2010 decision to leave Cleveland.

New York Yankees' Derek Jeter is No. 2 the list, followed by Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning at No. 3. In a tie for fifth are Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant, and NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.

For the women, both Williams sisters made the cut - Serena at No. 1, and Venus at No. 3. They're joined by fellow tennis star Maria Sharapova at No. 4. Driver Danica Patrick fell into the No. 2 spot, and retired soccer star Mia Hamm was the No. 5 choice.
