Looking to add to their frontcourt rotation without dipping into free agency, the Washington Wizards are trying to land DeJuan Blair via a sign-and-trade, according to a report from ESPN's Marc Stein.

Blair is currently an unrestricted free agent, but the Mavericks are expected to renounce his rights in the coming days if a deal can't be worked out, as Dallas will need his cap hold off their books to proceed with free agent moves. The Wizards would probably hope to use a small trade exception to take on Blair's salary rather than using a salary cap exception to sign him outright.

Blair made just $947,907 this past season, his fifth in the NBA, and he comes with a minimum 2014-15 salary of $1.06 million. While there are always some concerns about the 25-year-old Blair's long-term health - he has no ACL in either knee - he managed 78 games last season and has missed just 28 games in his career.

A talented rebounder capable of playing an undersized center in a pinch, Blair averaged 6.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in 15.6 minutes with Dallas this past season.

The Wizards have Marcin Gortat, Nene and Kevin Seraphin under contract in their frontcourt, so Blair would fill an obvious area of need.
