The Los Angeles Clippers selected Washington wing C.J. Wilcox with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft on Thursday night.

Where are you standing right now? Wilcox can hit from there. Knocked down some for being a senior and having a somewhat one-dimensional game, Wilcox has the one skill that can keep players in the league - shooting. He hit 39.1 percent of his threes as a senior, averaged 2.3 makes a game over four seasons and has reportedly continued to impress in shooting drills.

He's a smart player and plays high-effort defense, but he'll be 24 early in the season and is a bit small for the off-guard. Still, this is a steady veteran presence who teams can't leave open, a great value this late.

It makes sense for the Clippers to take an NBA-ready player given that they're firmly in win-now mode, though additional wing play was hardly a need. The Clippers already have J.J. Redick, Jamal Crawford, Jared Dudley, Willie Green, Reggie Bullock and Matt Barnes under contract for next season, but it's conceivable that some of those players - or Wilcox himself - could be moved by the time camp opens in the fall.
