Another day, another layer on the Kevin Love trade-talk cake.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been in discussions to acquire Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson for the seventh pick in next week's draft, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Such a deal would be part of a three-way trade to send Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Love to the Warriors. As the Times reports, the deal is on hold because of "a difference in opinion" within the Golden State organization on whether Thompson should be kept while trying to get Love.

ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Marc Stein collected the details:

After it appeared that the Warriors were prepared to part with Thompson in a deal to land Minnesota's Love, sources told ESPN.com that Hall of Fame consultant Jerry West and new Warriors coach Steve Kerr have voiced opposition to surrendering both Thompson and a future first-round pick to the Timberwolves along with former All-Star forward David Lee for Love and Wolves guard Kevin Martin.

With free agency beginning on July 1, the Lakers only have three players making guaranteed money - Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Robert Sacre. Should they hang onto the draft pick, it will be their first first-round selection since 2007.

The Lakers are also reportedly interested to see how Kansas center Joel Embiid's stock looks after surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot on Friday. Embiid could miss a significant part of the 2014-15 season, whereas Thompson could make an immediate impact.
