Nowitzki is expected to sign a new deal with the Mavericks soon after free agency begins, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Analysis:

During a radio interview Tuesday, Nowitzki said he'll meet with owner Mark Cuban "pretty quick" to begin working on a deal that is "respectable for both sides." While a few rumors suggested other teams, namely the Rockets, could make a run at Nowitzki, the veteran clarified that he intends to remain in Dallas long-term. "The chances of [leaving Dallas] are slim to none," Nowitzki said. "We all know that Cuban took care of me for a long team. This deal is not going to be about squeezing out the last dollar." Chances are, the 35-year-old Nowitzki will sign a multi-year deal that keeps him in Dallas while maintaining the team's ability to revamp the roster around him in hopes of making one final championship run. He could sign something similar to the three-year, $30.36 million deal Tim Duncan inked with the Spurs two summers ago.
