Metta World Peace comments on coaching gig: 'I am not retired, I am still so good, wow, I'm good'

If Metta World Peace never changes, it will be too soon. He's the best.

On Friday, World Peace commented on his new position as the assistant coach of the Palisades High girls basketball team through a blog post on Rant Sports:

Choosing to coach the girls varsity basketball team at Pali High was an easy decision. Coach T is a great leader and the girls work hard. I love Pali High School. I’m also a big fan of Venice High School, Beverly Hills High and University High.

Repeat before speaking: I am not retired. I am still so good. Wow, I’m good. I can still execute any offense a coach has at a high level. My team defense is still amazing and my one-on-one defense is better at my worst than some at their best.

I am also training college players, NBA players and high school players this summer.

There was more, but more of the same. Basically, World Peace loves training other players and will continue to do so in his spare time, declining to do any off-court appearances to focus on that endeavor.

But we repeat, he is not retired. In fact, he was so emphatic, let's provide the same text again, emphasis ours:

Repeat before speaking: I am not retired. I am still so good. Wow, I’m good. I can still execute any offense a coach has at a high level. My team defense is still amazing and my one-on-one defense is better at my worst than some at their best.

World Peace is an unrestricted free agent and one would think he'd be able to land a veteran minimum contract, even after a tough partial season with the New York Knicks. He's now 34, but as recently as 2012-13 he was a highly productive member of a playoff team with the Los Angeles Lakers.
