John Wall on Wizards' Game 2 loss: 'I take the blame'
John Wall didn't look like his All-Star self on Wednesday night, posting only six points on a miserable 2-of-13 shooting in Game 2 of the Washington Wizards' second-round series against the Indiana Pacers. He also missed a pair of crucial three-point attempts towards the end of the 86-82 loss.
To be fair, the entire team's offense struggled in the contest. But as the Wizards' lone All-Star, Wall understands more is expected out of him, and as a result, he shouldered the majority of the blame for leaving Game 2 empty-handed.
"I think so," said Wall after being asked whether his missed three-point attempts cost the Wizards. "The criticism is going to be on me whether we win or lose. I take the blame. That's what I'm supposed to do as a point guard."
Wall also explained why he decided to take the take the pair of three-point shots despite the fact he'd been struggling from the field all night.
""You go off your instincts," Wall explained. "I think one of the best shots in basketball, unless you've got a lead and you try to run clock, is a kick-out three off an offensive rebound. That's one of the best shots," he said. "It's a shot I took most of the season. Sometimes they go in. Sometimes they don't. We still gave ourselves a chance to win down the stretch. We just didn't make plays."
His struggles from the field haven't been limited to Game 2. Wall is shooting 32.6 percent from the field in the playoffs, a significant drop from the 43.3 percent he shot throughout the regular season.
