Dunleavy, Bulls outlast Wizards in chippy Game 3, trail series 2-1

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bulls showed some signs of life with a Game 3 win over the Washington Wizards on Friday night, claiming a 100-97 decision to cut the Wizards' series lead to 2-1.

The game was chippy throughout, culminating in a fourth quarter altercation between Nene and Jimmy Butler, which led to the Wizards' power forward being ejected from the game.

Star Performer

It was a special night for the Bulls' Mike Dunleavy, and his performance was one the Bulls sorely needed, as they had trouble finding offense.

Dunleavy went off for a career playoff-high 35 points on 12-of-19 shooting, knocking down 8-of-10 shots from beyond the arc, adding five rebounds and three assists. Dunleavy's effectiveness from long range set a Bulls record for threes in a playoff game, and makes him the first Bull with seven or more 3-pointers in a postseason game since Scottie Pippen in the 1997 NBA Finals.

Turning Point

The game was tied at 91 inside the final 30 seconds when Jimmy Butler launched a 3-pointer from the left wing that fell, putting the Bulls up for good.

Highlight Reel

John Wall had himself a first quarter.

In a game that was close right down to the end, Wizards assistant Sam Cassell got sick and tired of seeing his team miss free throws.

Quote of the Night

Mike Dunleavy wasn't just great on the court.
