Report: Jack likely to stay in Cleveland, Cavs balking at taking back salary

Unless things change in the next hour, Jarrett Jack will remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers for at least the rest of the season.

While his name has been floated in plenty of trade rumors ahead of the 3 p.m. trade deadline, it now appears Jack will stay put. A deal with the Sacramento Kings for Jason Thompson was reportedly on the table at one point but the Cavaliers balked at taking back Thompson's appreciable salary.

A discussion had also taken place with the Minnesota Timberwolves around J.J. Barea, though it's unclear how far those talks progressed.

Should he stay, Jack will remain the back-up to Kyrie Irving and the team will look to better integrate him in the offense. Jack has previously shown a knack for sharing the backcourt with other guards but he has struggled in the first season of a four-year, $25.2 million deal that guarantees Jack nearly $20 million.

In 53 games, Jack is averaging 8.5 points and 3.8 assists while shooting just 39.3 percent from the floor, numbers that have gotten even worse over the past month.
