Metta World Peace celebrates his bold Curry prophecy from 4 years ago

In May 2013, Stephen Curry was a good jump-shooter coming off ankle injuries and playing on a slightly above-average Golden State Warriors team. To predict that he would win an NBA MVP award at the time was a bit of a stretch, but hey, so would have foreseeing Donald Trump become U.S. president.

One of the few Curry clairvoyants from back then was Metta World Peace, who tweeted in May of that year that The Chef's dominance was imminent - even if he couldn't spell Steph's name right.

Or was that spelling intentional?

On Tuesday, World Peace brought his prophetic statement up, complete with the onslaught of insults that followed.

Finding World Peace's impetus for the original statement could be somewhat simple. On the night of May 8, 2013, hours before making the first predictive tweet, Curry helped lead the Warriors to a 100-91 win over the Spurs in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals. In Game 1, Curry dropped 44 points in a double-overtime loss.

While Golden State was still two years and a coaching change from Mark Jackson to Steve Kerr away from breaking through, they actually tied that series with the Spurs at two games apiece before losing in six games.

The rise of the Warriors did in fact come as a surprise to many, but Curry's flamethrowing ability and the team's evolution in a league that was trending in a favorable direction for them doesn't seem so shocking in retrospect. World Peace is many things, but he's always been a fairly astute student of the game.
