Grizzlies clinch 7-seed, 1st-round matchup with Spurs
We have our first playoff matchup officially locked in, and it's a familiar one.
With a 101-88 win over the New York Knicks on Friday night, the Memphis Grizzlies secured the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference, setting up a first-round matchup with the San Antonio Spurs, who were already locked into the 2-seed.
The two teams met in the first round last year, with the exact same seeds, with the Spurs sweeping a Grizzlies team that was badly depleted due to injuries. Memphis should be close to full strength heading into the playoffs this time around, and they split the four-game season series with San Antonio.
This will be the fourth time in the past seven years the two teams lock horns in the postseason, and the fifth time overall. The Spurs have swept the Grizzlies in three of the four series, with the Grizzlies' lone triumph coming in an 8-over-1 stunner back in 2011.
