Bulls honor late Jerry Krause with moment of silence

CHICAGO - The Chicago Bulls honored late general manager Jerry Krause with a moment of silence before their game against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.

The executive who oversaw a dynasty that produced a pair of championship three-peats in the 1990s, Krause died on Tuesday. He was 77.

A Chicago native, Krause took over as GM in 1985 and surrounded Michael Jordan with the pieces to win six championships.

His most notable moves were a 1987 draft day trade for Scottie Pippen and hiring Phil Jackson from the Continental Basketball Association. Jackson first served as an assistant to Doug Collins and became head coach after Collins was fired following a run to the 1989 Eastern Conference finals.
