Rockets fail to foul in dying seconds of loss to Spurs
The Houston Rockets couldn't close out the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night after leading for virtually the entire game, and then watched helplessly as Kawhi Leonard went nova in the final minute.
Still, the Rockets trailed by just two points with 10 seconds left in regulation, and might've had a chance if they'd only managed to give a foul, stop the clock, and send the Spurs to the line for a couple high-pressure free throws.
Alas, Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge beat the feeble press, playing keep-away until the final buzzer sounded. The Rockets were incensed that no whistle was blown as Patrick Beverley bumped Aldridge from behind, but it was far from an obvious foul, and by that point most of what was left on the clock had elapsed, anyway.
