Cavs' Smith gets heated after watching McGruder smack Frye
Injury or not, Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith - who is currently sidelined after undergoing surgery to repair a thumb fracture on Dec. 23 - isn't one to sit idly by if he feels one of his teammates has been wronged.
During the final moments of Saturday's game between the Cavaliers and Miami Heat, Rodney McGruder felt the need to smack Cleveland veteran Channing Frye in the back after dropping a put-back dunk right over him.
Smith was visibly upset over McGruder's actions, standing up from his seat on the Cavs' bench and yapping at the South Beach rookie.
After the final buzzer, Smith needed to be restrained by team personnel, as did Miami guard and former Cavalier Dion Waiters
With no LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, or Kevin Love in the lineup for the reigning champions, the Heat managed to cruise to a convincing 120-92 victory at American Airlines Arena.
