Cavs' Lue hopes Smith will return in 10-14 days

The Cleveland Cavaliers used the buyout market to paper over a few holes this week, and more reinforcements may soon be on the way.

Cavs shooting guard J.R. Smith, who's been on the shelf since undergoing surgery to repair a thumb fracture on Dec. 23, has begun working out and traveling with the team, and appears to be nearing a return to game action.

Head coach Tyronn Lue told reporters he's hopeful Smith will be back in "the next 10 days to two weeks," according to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com.

"They're saying he's been looking better and better every day," Lue said. "He had a good workout yesterday, so hopefully we get him back soon."

In the meantime, the Cavs have scooped up Deron Williams and Andrew Bogut. But what Lue hasn't quite figured out yet is how he'll fit all the pieces together once Smith - and, eventually, Kevin Love - are back in the fold.

"I don't know how I'm going to use all of these people I got yet," Lue said. "I got three new players coming back. Got J.R., who we haven't seen in a long time, got Kevin, and now we've got Bogut. And now we're trying to implement D-Will right now, so. It's going to be a process but it's a great process to have when we've got great players, that now we have a roster of 12 guys that should be playing. That's always a good thing to happen."
