Embiid: 'Hopefully I'm here' past trade deadline

USA Today

The trade deadline is less than a day away, and it seems like nobody's safe.

Team executives are working the phones in an effort to buy or sell, while social media is abuzz with rumors and reports. A superstar has already been moved, while role players, fringe rotation guys, and draft picks have been - and presumably will continue to be - dealt ahead of Thursday's deadline at 3 p.m. ET.

All this chaos has Philadelphia 76ers rookie sensation Joel Embiid concerned (or at least feigning concern).

"Hopefully I'm here (past the trade deadline)," he told reporters Wednesday, as quoted by Philly.com's Keith Pompey.

"I've seen my name pop up all over the place," he added about trade rumors, on which he wouldn't elaborate.

The 22-year-old jokester has emerged as the team's best player this season and should be considered untouchable. There's been no real rumblings of him being shipped away, but the same can't be said for the rest of his team - namely Jahlil Okafor, who's been on the trading block in light of the Sixers' surplus of young bigs.

Embiid has been sidelined with a knee injury, but went through the full practice Wednesday. He's listed as doubtful for Philly's upcoming matchups this weekend.
