The Charlotte Hornets may be eyeing a streaky-shooting veteran to run the point off the bench.

The team is aggressively trying to acquire guard Lou Williams from the Los Angeles Lakers, sources told ESPN's Chris Haynes.

The 30-year-old could take some offensive pressure off All-Star Kemba Walker while providing a spark off the pine for the Hornets in their bid to make the playoffs for the second straight year.

Jeremy Lin filled the roll as the primary scorer and playmaker in the second unit last season, but left in free agency. His replacement, Ramon Sessions, hasn't been nearly as effective and is currently sidelined with a knee injury.

Williams is leading the Lakers in scoring with 18.6 points and 3.2 assists while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from long range in his 12th campaign. He's due $7 million next year.

There's a bidding war for his services, with newly hired president Magic Johnson telling reporters Tuesday that most of the calls he's received have been inquiries about the former Sixth Man of the Year. The Utah Jazz and Washington Wizards are among those also reportedly interested in picking up the vet.
