Bucks acquire Hibbert, Hawes from Hornets for Plumlee
Let's swap some big men.
The Milwaukee Bucks and Charlotte Hornets have reached a deal sending Roy Hibbert and Spencer Hawes to Milwaukee in exchange for Miles Plumlee, as originally reported by ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Marc Stein.
The Bucks had been figured to be interested in a frontcourt move, although adding Hibbert and Hawes is probably not something many observers expected. Hibbert is on a one-year deal for $5 million this season, averaging 5.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 16 minutes a game.
In that sense, the deal could be seen as a win for the Bucks, as it gets them out of the four-year $50-million contract they gave to Plumlee last summer. That deal questionably locked the team into committing approximately $120 million to three big men - Plumlee, Greg Monroe, and John Henson.
Early indications are that the Bucks will keep both Hibbert and Hawes, the latter of which has a $6-million player option for next season. Milwaukee will waive veteran Steve Novak to clear roster room, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.
In the immediate term, Plumlee provides depth for Charlotte at center with Cody Zeller nursing an injury. The team plans to sign center Mike Tobey from their D-League outfit, according to The Vertical's Shams Charania.
