Report: Grizzlies' Wright to play Monday for 1st time in almost a year
Memphis Grizzlies big man Brandan Wright plans to make his season debut Monday against the Phoenix Suns, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon, citing sources.
Wright hasn't played an NBA game since Feb. 27 of last year, coincidentally also in Phoenix. Injuries limited him to only 12 games last season, the most recent malady coming in the form of left ankle surgery in November.
The Grizzlies signed Wright to a three-year, $18-million contract in 2015, hoping to take advantage of his athleticism and 7-foot-4 wingspan.
The North Carolina product is a strong finisher around the basket with a career 60.8 percent field goal percentage, although it remains to be seen how he will integrate into the frontcourt rotation alongside Marc Gasol, JaMychal Green, and Zach Randolph.
