Melo sets Knicks franchise record for points in a quarter

Carmelo Anthony put that embarrassing five-foot air ball behind him in a hurry.

Anthony set the New York Knicks' record for most points in a quarter on Thursday with 25 in the second frame. Willis Reed and Allan Houston shared the previous Knicks record with 24 points.

At one point the veteran scorer drilled eight straight field goals in the face of extremely tight defensive pressure from the Washington Wizards. He finished the quarter with three triples and 10-of-12 shooting from the field.

The 32-year-old is no stranger to scoring outbursts. It was only two years ago when Anthony scored a career-high 62 points against the Charlotte Bobcats.

There were many direct parallels between his 62-point game and Anthony's record-setting quarter against the Wizards. He was red-hot from the perimeter and was able to generate a quickness advantage by lining up at power forward opposite a slower defender.
