Rondo 'absolutely' sees himself being a head coach in future

Rajon Rondo isn't on his way out the door yet, but whenever the Chicago Bulls point guard decides to call it quits on his playing career, he'll still be on the sideline.

According to the Chicago Tribune's K.C. Johnson, Rondo "absolutely" sees himself as an NBA head coach in the future.

"I've been preparing to coach since I left Boston, really," Rondo said. "I study all of my coaches. I watch the way they move, the timeouts they call, plays they draw up out of timeouts, how they run practices, speeches they give. I'm trying to follow it all. I see how players gravitate toward different coaches."

Speaking of those different coaches, Rondo's sometimes rumored rocky relationships with some of the ones from his past don't seem to worry him. Rondo told the Tribune he shares a strong mutual respect with the likes of Rick Carlisle, George Karl, and college coach Tubby Smith.

Rondo emphasized that relating to players would be a strong suit for him as an NBA coach.

With all the information he's gathered over the years from coaches, paired with his own basketball IQ, he's hoping to do as Jason Kidd did. Kidd immediately went from playing with the Knicks in 2012-13, to head coach of the Brooklyn Nets the following season.

"That's the plan. Hopefully I can transition right into it after playing instead of having to sit out or going a different route," Rondo said. "I know it's not an easy job. But I respect that this is the highest level of being a coach. If I needed to go an assistant route, I'd do it. But I don't know if it would need that."
