Fans misspelling Kyle Lowry's name in All-Star votes at alarming rate

USA Today Sports

Kyle Lowry is right up there with Giannis Antetokounmpo in terms of NBA player names fans find difficult to spell correctly.

There's absolutely no reason that should be the case, but check out some of the attempted All-Star votes the Toronto Raptors point guard has been receiving on social media and you'll see that spelling "Lowry" is truly no easy task.

The first All-Star ballot returns had Lowry ranked sixth overall among Eastern Conference guards, less than 1,000 votes behind Derrick Rose of the New York Knicks. This comes under a year after he was named a starter for the midseason exhibition north of the border.

Regardless of why or why not the votes aren't falling for Lowry (sans the unnecessary 'e'), he'll still have a reasonable shot at being a starter for a third year in a row regardless of where the fans' allegiances lie - they'll only comprise 50 percent of the total vote, while players and members of the media will make up the other half.

Heading into Saturday's game against the Chicago Bulls, the 30-year-old floor general was averaging 22.5 points on 47.7 percent shooting from the field and 44.5 percent from behind the arc, along with seven assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 37.1 minutes per game.
