Jazz's Hill hasn't been eating solid food since being elbowed in mouth

Russ Isabella / USA TODAY Sports

This season has been equal parts dream and nightmare for Utah Jazz point guard George Hill.

When he's been healthy enough to play, he's played the best ball of his career, averaging 18.8 points and 4.2 assists with a .547/.475/.824 shooting line and a 25.9 PER. But those instances have been few and far between, as he's suited up for just 13 of 36 games due to a litany of injuries.

His latest is a concussion courtesy of an Alex Len elbow to the mouth on New Year's Eve, which has not only sidelined him, but confined him to a largely liquid diet. Even once he clears the league's concussion protocol, it may take some time for him to return to his normal playing weight, as Wednesday marked the first time since the injury that Hill was able to consume something other than fluids or rice, Jazz broadcaster David Locke reports.

Hill has missed the past two games since the injury (and played just seven minutes in the game he suffered it), and will sit out again Thursday night when the Jazz visit the Toronto Raptors. He previously missed eight games with a sprained thumb and 13 games with a sprained toe.

The Jazz are 10-3 in games he's played (compared to 12-11 in those he hasn't), and have been 17.7 points per 100 possessions better with him on the floor.
