LeBron: 'We don't have a reliable, veteran backup point guard'
If there's one thing on LeBron James' wish list for 2017, it's a new point guard.
"That was obvious from Day 1, first day of training camp," James told Joe Vardon of cleveland.com. "We don't have a reliable, veteran backup point guard."
The Cavs have failed to find an able replacement after losing Matthew Dellavedova to free agency last summer, relying upon Kay Felder and Jordan McRae to fill the role. While the pair have tried their best, neither has made much of an impact through the first 34 games of the season.
"Kay's in the process of learning on the fly," James said. "He's a rookie and is going to have his mistakes and things of that nature. It's tough on him because we're a franchise trying to win a championship. He has to have a fast-track mind. But we don't have a backup point guard."
Mario Chalmers - an ex-teammate of LeBron's - is currently a free agent, and could be a potential target should Cleveland free up a roster spot. Rajon Rondo is another point guard who is likely to be available, but his issues with coaching staff over the past several seasons could make him a poor fit.
