Rondo says meeting with Bulls brass didn't resolve anything

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Displeased Chicago Bulls point guard Rajon Rondo said Wednesday that his meeting with team vice president John Paxson and general manager Gar Forman didn't resolve anything in regards to his benching by coach Fred Hoiberg.

"It really wasn't a clear-cut message," Rondo said, according to ESPN's Nick Friedell. "We'll talk again."

Rondo told media on New Year's Eve that he planned to speak to the Bulls brass about the situation. At the time, he didn't rule out asking for a trade or a contract buyout.

Asked Wednesday if he would be amenable to not starting and coming off the bench for the Bulls, Rondo said: "We'll see. I just want to work on my game and continue to get better."

Any playing time at all would have to be an improvement for Rondo at the moment. He's racked up two straight DNP-CDs, although Hoiberg has credited the 30-year-old veteran for how he's handled the situation.

After signing a two-year, $27-million deal with Chicago last summer, the shot-challenged Rondo is at career lows in field-goal and free-throw percentage, while putting up some of the lowest scoring and assist numbers of his career. Rondo said Hoiberg lamented that he appears slower.

Dwyane Wade said that Rondo's issue has not been a distraction in the dressing room.

"You don't expect him to be jolly," Wade said, according to the Chicago Tribune's K.C. Johnson. "He's not playing the game he loves. But when it comes to his teammates, he's been great."

Wade rejected any notion that he would engage with the front office on the subject.

"Don't put me into none of that. No upstairs, no downstairs decisions by Dwyane Wade," he said. "When it comes to decisions that have to be made on players and stuff like that, I don't get paid to do that."
