Westbrook scores 40-plus for 3rd straight game

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

For the second time in his career, Russell Westbrook has scored more than 40 points in three straight games. Westbrook's 45 Friday against the Boston Celtics led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 117-112 victory, and he also recorded his second triple-double in four contests.

Russell Westbrook PTS AST REB FG
12/23 vs. Celtics 45 11 11 13-25
12/21 vs. Pelicans 42 7 10 12-26
12/19 vs. Hawks 46 11 7 16-33
12/17 vs. Suns 26 22 11 9-17

Westbrook is now only one triple-double behind Wilt Chamberlain for the second-most career 40-point triple-doubles all time, according to Elias and ESPN. He last scored 40 in three straight in March 2015.

The Thunder have won three of their last four games, with Westbrook's poor shot selection - despite a 46-point outing - helping cost the loss to the Atlanta Hawks. On Friday in Boston, he had one of his best nights of the season from beyond the arc, hitting 5-of-8 treys - including the dagger with under a minute left.

The Thunder are back in action Christmas Day against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
