DeAndre gets last laugh with game-clinching putback vs. Heat

DeAndre Jordan picked the right moment to prove that he does, in fact, do more than just catch lobs.

That's the accusation Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside leveled at him Thursday (though he later walked it back), and Jordan rebutted it convincingly with a one-handed offensive rebound and putback layup that put his Los Angeles Clippers up four on the Heat with eight seconds left Friday night.

As the rules of narrative state: Show, don't tell.

The caveat is that Whiteside, somewhat curiously, wasn't on the floor at the time. It was likely a hedge against his being fouled (he's shooting 52.5 percent from the free-throw line this season), but it meant Jordan - who was being boxed out by the much smaller James Johnson - had a far easier time muscling his way to the rebound.

Still, you can only beat the guy in front of you (for a rebound), and whatever the circumstances, Jordan got the last word.
