Report: High-level NBA, NBPA sources confident new CBA will be struck next week

While NBPA vice president Carmelo Anthony has his reservations over the potential for a new collective bargaining agreement being struck in the near future, all hope isn't lost just yet.

"High-level sources" in both the National Basketball Association and National Basketball Players Association told The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski Saturday that they're "optimistic" a new CBA will be struck late next week.

Control over licensing and player likenesses is putting negotiations at a standstill, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein, who added that the NBA's union has wanted that control for quite some time.

The belief, though, is that a deal will be made at some point prior to the Dec. 15 opt-out date, according to NBA.com's David Aldridge.

"They're at the three-yard line," said one of his sources.

Some of the provisions in the updated CBA would reportedly include a shorter preseason, a "significantly higher" rookie contract scale, changes to the league's drug policy, and two-way D-League contracts.
