Westbrook first since Jordan to record 5 straight triple-doubles
His current pace may appear to be unsustainable, but Russell Westbrook is showing zero signs of slowing down anytime soon.
The 6-foot-3 guard collected his fifth straight triple-double in a win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday evening, joining Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson, and Wilt Chamberlain as the only players to do so. More impressively is the rate at which he's recording them, as four of his league-high 10 triple-doubles have come prior to the end of the third quarter.
While one might argue that Westbrook is simply stat chasing at this point, it would be hard to criticize the 28-year-old, as the Thunder have gone a perfect 5-0 during his ridiculous streak.
With five straight triple-doubles, Westbrook now sits four away from tying Wilt Chamberlain's record for the longest streak in NBA history.
Westbrook finished Sunday's contest with 28 points, 17 rebounds, and 12 assists in the 101-92 victory. The five-time All-Star also accumulated double-digit turnovers (10), becoming the first player since Jason Kidd in 2000 to do so during a triple-double performance.
