76ers' Embiid interested in participating in 3-point contest

Never before in NBA history has a legitimate true-blue center been a participant in the 3-point contest over All-Star Weekend - Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers wouldn't mind being the first.

"It would be nice," Embiid said smiling, according to Philly.com's Keith Pompey. "It would be nice. I don't know."

Taking shots from behind the arc during the flow of a game is far different than setting up from five spots around the perimeter and chucking up attempts in under sixty seconds. Should Embiid somehow sneak in, he acknowledges that he would need to put some serious work in ahead of time.

"If I have a chance to be in it, I have to practice all that,” Embiid said of getting shots up quickly. "But I think I can get it. I got to work on my quick release and you know most of the shots I take from three, I always hold my follow through.

"So in an All-Star Game, it’s about getting it up. So I have work on that."

Embiid, who is coming off an NBA Rookie of the Month win for November, has converted 15 of his 30 total attempts from deep on the season.

The 2017 All-Star Game goes down on Feb. 19 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, with All-Star Saturday Night - when the 3-point contest would take place - held the evening prior.
