Lakers' Young suffers Achilles injury vs. Pelicans

Jennifer Stewart-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers may have lost another starter, as Nick Young suffered a strained right Achilles during the first quarter of Tuesday's game in New Orleans, and will undergo an MRI on Wednesday.

The Lakers swingman appeared to injure his right leg while trying to defend a Pelicans fast break, as he came up limping, hobbled to the scorer's table on his left leg, and was eventually carried off the court.

Young, whose comedic personality, on-court blooper reel, and off-court drama made him an NBA punchline in the past, has enjoyed a productive start to the season for L.A. The 31-year-old is shooting the ball better than ever, averaging 14.1 points on an effective field goal percentage of 58.8 for the 9-9 Lakers, while ranking in the top 25 for 3-point shooting.

The Lakers are already without starting point guard D'Angelo Russell, who's out at least another week recovering from PRP treatment, while starting power forward Julius Randle only returned Tuesday after missing the previous three contests with a hip injury.
