Cousins hoping John Wall will one day join him on Kings
A reunion of former 2009-10 Kentucky Wildcat teammates at the professional level would put a giant smile on the face of one DeMarcus Cousins.
Simply talking about the possibility of one day being able to take the floor with three-time All-Star and current Washington Wizards point guard John Wall again was enough to evoke a positive response out of Boogie on Monday night.
When asked whether or not the two have discussed the possibility of joining forces in the NBA, Cousins confirmed that it's come up in past conversations.
"You never know what will happen," Cousins said, according to the Washington Post's Candace Buckner. "It's the NBA, so hopefully one day (Wall) will be in a Sacramento uniform."
Wall and Cousins were both one-and-done prospects under head coach John Calipari, leading the team in scoring en route to an Elite Eight appearance for the Wildcats in the 2010 NCAA tournament. They entered the NBA draft shortly thereafter, going first and fifth overall, respectively.
It's no secret that Cousins' time with the Kings organization has been quite unpleasant over the past seven seasons, with the team's playoff drought and his problems with both coaches and management essentially defining his tenure.
Wall, on the other hand, hasn't avoided controversy either while in the nation's capital.
His relationship with teammate Bradley Beal continues to be under a microscope, despite Wall constantly reassuring everyone that there's no trouble in paradise with the backcourt tandem.
Washington is struggling to keep its head above water at 5-10, while the Kings aren't that much better at 7-10.
Cousins has one more year left on his contract paying him $16.7 million in 2017-18, and Wall is locked in for two more seasons himself. With perhaps no light at the end of the tunnel for either individual, a change of scenery to get the band back together could be beneficial, although it would be difficult for the logistics of such a move to work if a trade were to come to fruition.
The two will square off as opponents for the first of two meetings this season Monday at the Verizon Center.
