Celtics score just 8 points in opening quarter vs. Wizards

NBA on ESPN/Twitter

All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas was recently on the record saying how his Boston Celtics aren't a good team when they don't come out with a sense of urgency.

Well, on Wednesday night against the Washington Wizards, Boston didn't have anything close to that once again.

At the end of the opening frame, Boston found itself trailing by 26 points on the scoreboard against the Washington Wizards, 34-8. It was the fewest points the team had scored in an opening quarter in over four decades.

The Celtics had just seven points after 12 minutes of action against the Milwaukee Bucks on Nov. 12, 1974. Despite the horrid start, they managed to ride a strong second half to pull out a 91-83 victory.

Along with their poor defensive effort, the Celtics' inability to convert from 3-point range played a part in their early futility on Wednesday, missing all eight of their attempts from behind the arc.

They made just four of their 22 shots from the field (18.2 percent), and clanked their only shot from the charity stripe.
