Report: Hayward to return Sunday vs. Knicks

Chris Nicoll / USA TODAY Sports

Good news could be coming early for the Utah Jazz.

Gordon Hayward will return to the team Sunday against the New York Knicks, sources tell ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

Hayward has yet to play this regular season after fracturing the ring finger on his non-shooting hand Oct 7. At the time, he was expected to miss six weeks, and Sunday marks just over four since the injury.

It's a big boost for Utah, as Hayward is their leading scorer the past three seasons and easily their most dynamic offensive player.

George Hill, Rodney Hood, and Joe Johnson have been picking up the scoring slack in his absence, but the 3-3 Jazz are also dealing with other injuries to Boris Diaw, Alec Burks, and Derrick Favors.
