Ewing: Embiid might be NBA's most talented center
Joel Embiid is living up to the hype after spending his first two seasons on the shelf.
Embiid remains bound to a minutes restriction on account of costly foot injuries, but the early returns have been stellar. The 22-year-old is averaging 29.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 4.6 blocks per 36 minutes through three games.
Coaches from around the league have taken notice. Charlotte Hornets assistant Patrick Ewing, an all-time force in the paint, reportedly stormed into head coach Steve Clifford's office after reviewing Embiid's 18-point, 10-rebound performance Tuesday.
"Woah. This guy? He might be the most talented center in the game," Ewing told Clifford, according to ESPN's Tom Haberstroh.
In previous games, Embiid showed off his dunking prowess and his feathery jump shot, which extends beyond the 3-point arc.
On Tuesday, his highlight moment came when he swatted three shots in three minutes. He finished with four blocks in 24 minutes.
Embiid was scheduled to face the Hornets on Wednesday, but he'll instead be rested on the second night of a back-to-back. Clifford added to that end, reports Haberstroh, that he was "glad" to see the young star's name absent from the game sheet.
