Jazz's Alec Burks: Out indefinitely following procedure on ankle

Burks (ankle) underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure Tuesday and will be out indefinitely.

Analysis:

Burks missed 55 games in 2015-16 after requiring surgery last December to address a fractured left fibula and required a follow-up procedure last June to clean out debris out of his left knee and ankle. It was expected that he'd be ready to go at some point in training camp, but with Burks failing to show much improvement with his inflamed ankle in recent weeks, the Jazz decided another arthroscopic procedure was necessary. The Jazz will likely evaluate Burks on a week-to-week basis, but his absence could very well stretch into 2017. With Burks sidelined, look for Dante Exum and Joe Ingles to log more time off the bench at shooting guard, while Joe Johnson may fill in minutes at the position once Gordon Hayward (finger) reclaims his spot in the starting lineup later this month.
