Report: NBA has no plans to expand

The NBA Board of Governors has "shot down at every turn" suggestions of expansion in the near future, according to a source of Basketball Insiders' Steve Kyler.

The news comes as little surprise, as commissioner Adam Silver is on record saying the NBA is "not in expansion mode." Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer also said in July there's been no talk of adding franchises since he assumed control of his team in 2014.

Expansion rumors have largely been fueled by continued interest from moneyed parties in bringing a team back to Seattle. In addition, the CEO of MGM Resorts this week said he wanted to secure an NBA franchise for Las Vegas, although he suggested that was better suited through relocation.

The NBA currently has an even 30 teams, so logic would suggest expansion is more optimal with two new franchises. However, the NHL added a Las Vegas team to start play next season, giving the league an uneven 31 squads.
