Kerr cheekily describes KD as 'light-years beyond'

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was in a lighthearted mood on the eve of his team's much-anticipated season opener.

Kerr, speaking about new addition Kevin Durant, busted out the unofficial taboo catchphrase of the Warriors when describing how Durant has integrated himself within the team.

"He's light-years beyond where he was three weeks ago," Kerr told Anthony Slater of the Mercury News, before catching himself mid-sentence.

"Am I allowed to say light years?" Kerr joked.

The Warriors, specifically their braggadocios team owner Joe Lacob, caught endless ridicule for a quote he gave to New York Times Magazine last season. Lacob boasted that his franchise was "light-years ahead," which has since taken on a life of its own across the league as the go-to quip highlighting Golden State's collective arrogance.

Kerr also caught wind of Durant hopping about in a mosh pit at Kanye West's weekend concert in Oakland, and thus he opted to cut short practice.

"I cut practice short because I saw he got a great workout last night," Kerr said.

All jokes aside, the Warriors will have to get serious beginning Tuesday as they kick off their highly anticipated campaign with a battle against the San Antonio Spurs.
