Heat's Rodney McGruder: Makes Miami's final roster
McGruder (finger) won a spot Saturday on the Heat's Opening Night roster, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis:
The 26-year-old McGruder was able to beat out point guards Beno Udrih and Briante Weber for the 15th roster spot after averaging 7.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in the preseason, while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 36.6 percent from three-point range. While McGruder suffered a dislocated middle finger in Friday's preseason finale against the 76ers, coach Erik Spoeltra labeled it as a non-issue, suggesting that the shooting guard could have returned to the court if needed. McGruder will likely open the upcoming season outside of the Heat's rotation, but could be an injury away from seeing some run with the second unit.
