Rockets' Patrick Beverley: Availability for regular-season opener in question

Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said Friday that Beverley (knee) could be sidelined for another week or two, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Analysis:

With the Rockets opening up the regular season Oct. 26 against the Lakers, it's not certain if Beverley, who has sat out four preseason contests, will be available. The point guard continues to nurse a sore left knee that hasn't seemed to notice much improvement, as he's not yet practicing. The Rockets have found success with James Harden working as the starting point guard in Beverley's stead, so it's possible that Beverley may have to settle for a role on the second unit once he returns.
