Lue wants Garnett to join Cavaliers staff as assistant

Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue's recruitment pitch to newly retired Kevin Garnett has seemingly begun.

"The Big Ticket" will be at Quicken Loans Arena when the Cavaliers host the New York Knicks to open the 2016-17 regular season, Lue told reporters Thursday. The team will also receive its championship rings after overcoming a 3-1 series deficit against the Golden State Warriors in last year's Finals.

While it remains to be seen why exactly Garnett will be in the building for the ceremony, Lue mentioned he's willing to offer the 40-year-old former league MVP a role on his coaching staff.

"I talked to him about it. I know his wife is pushing for it a lot," Lue said on Thursday. "Brandi is pushing for it, trying to get him to come and coach. He says he’s not ready yet. He goes back, ‘I might do it,’ but he’s back and forth. We’ll see. But I’d definitely make a spot for him if he wanted to come back and coach."
