Wizards' Marcus Thornton: Suffers sprained thumb

Thornton was held out of practice Thursday with a sprained right thumb, Candace Buckner of The Washington Post reports.

Analysis:

Thornton jammed his finger during a previous practice and is now dealing with some lingering pain, so the Wizards will hold him out to avoid any further damage. The veteran shooting guard could be at risk of missing the Wizards' preseason opener next week, but this doesn't seem like the sort of injury that would keep him sidelined through the start of the regular season.
