Thunder's Cameron Payne: Suffers acute fracture in foot

The Thunder announced Thursday that Payne suffered an acute fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot, Erik Horne of The Oklahoman reports.

Analysis:

Payne had surgery to repair a Jones fracture in the same foot earlier this offseason, but this latest injury is reportedly to a different portion of his right foot. He suffered the injury while driving to the basket against teammate Josh Huestis during Tuesday's scrimmage. Payne has yet to be given any sort of timetable for a return, but based on the nature of the injury, it's reasonable to expect the second-year point guard to be sidelined multiple weeks, if not months, taking him out of the mix for opening night. With Payne out of commission, Ronnie Price is expected to settle in as the backup point guard to Russell Westbrook, while Semaj Christon's chances of making the team go up dramatically.
