Bucks' Michael Carter-Williams: Will open season with second unit

Carter-Williams (hip) will enter training camp as a member of the Bucks' second unit, Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Analysis:

Carter-Williams started in 37 of the 54 games he played a season ago with the Bucks, but he saw his role decrease in the second half before undergoing season-ending surgery on his left hip in March. The Bucks appear committed to giving Giannis Antetokounmpo more run at point guard this season, but with last week's news that Khris Middleton (hamstring) would miss most, if not all, of the coming season, there was some thought Carter-Williams could reenter the starting mix. However, likely as a result of Carter-Williams' poor shooting from the field and three-point range, the Bucks have tentatively decided that Vaughn, a natural shooting guard, is a better fit on the top unit. Things could change as training camp shakes out, but the vote of confidence for Vaughn and the offseason additions of Matthew Dellavedova and Malcolm Brogdon to the backcourt seem to indicate that Carter-Williams' role will decrease in 2016-17.
