76ers' Ben Simmons: Adds 30 pounds during offseason

Simmons said Monday that he now checks in around 250 pounds, Jessica Camerato of CSN Philadelphia reports.

Analysis:

Simmons was listed at 217 pounds during the pre-draft process, and while he's made adding muscle a major priority since getting selected No. 1 overall by the 76ers, a 33-pound weight gain of pure strength over just a few months seems hard to believe. Nonetheless, at 6-foot-10, Simmons certainly had room to put on more weight, and any gains he might have made should prove helpful as he transitions to the pro game. It's expected that Simmons will see most of his time at the two forward spots as a rookie, but his advanced ball-handling and passing skills will enable him to occasionally serve as a point forward in coach Brett Brown's attack. Simmons' versatility and athleticism should allow him to see 30-plus minutes this season, and while it will likely come with poor efficiency, he could pile up the counting stats in droves.
