Raptors' Jared Sullinger: Starting job is his to lose

Coach Dwane Casey said Monday that the starting power forward job is "[Sullinger's to lose]," Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun reports.

Analysis:

Sullinger joined the Raptors this offseason on a one-year, $5.62 million deal after spending the previous four seasons in Boston. He'll immediately be penciled into the starting lineup, replacing Luis Scola, who started 76 games for the Raptors last season. Casey clarified that Patrick Patterson will still hold an integral role, but the hope is that Sullinger and Jonas Valanciunas can be effective enough defensively to keep Patterson in a position where he can be optimized as a floor spacer off the bench.
