Atlanta Hawks All-Star Paul Millsap recently underwent a non-surgical, preventative procedure to reduce swelling in his right knee, the team announced Thursday.

As a result, the 31-year-old power forward has been ruled out for Atlanta's first two preseason games. He's expected to return to full basketball activity over the next three weeks.

"After reviewing the options with Paul to treat his knee and provide him the best long-term care, we agreed, largely due to the time of year, that this was the best method and time to ensure his complete readiness for the start of the regular season," head coach and president of basketball operations Mike Budenholzer said in an official statement.

The Hawks open their preseason Oct. 6 against the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedEx Forum. They'll then hit the road again to battle the San Antonio Spurs on Oct. 8 at the AT&T Center.

In his third full season with the organization, Millsap averaged a near double-double of 17.1 points and nine rebounds, along with 3.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.8 rejections in 81 appearances for the 48-34 Hawks.
