Mavericks won't bring back Villanueva

Despite what Kevin Durant said, Charlie Villanueva could still be in the NBA this upcoming season.

He won't be returning to the Dallas Mavericks, though.

Mavericks president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson expects the 32-year-old to continue his NBA career this year - just not with his team, Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

The 6-foot-11 power forward has played in Dallas for the past two campaigns on separate one-year deals. The Mavs signed him using the veteran's minimum last year, but haven't reached out to him about re-joining the team after his contract expired.

Villanueva averaged 5.7 points while shooting 40 percent from the field and 33 percent from long range, to go along with 2.4 rebounds in just under 11 minutes off the bench over two years in Texas.

After the Oklahoma City Thunder sent Dallas packing in the first round of this year's playoffs, Durant said Villanueva "might not be in the league" the following season.

The former seventh overall pick has reportedly considered playing in China.
