Report: Marc Gasol cleared to play following foot surgery

Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

With the start of training camp just around the corner for the Memphis Grizzlies, the team's All-Star center has received a clean bill of health after sitting out the second half of the 2015-16 season.

Marc Gasol has reportedly been cleared to partake in all basketball activity after undergoing surgery on his broken right foot, according to the Commercial Appeal's Ronald Tillery.

The now 31-year-old big man was diagnosed with a non-displaced Type II fracture of his navicular bone after playing 11 minutes in a game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Feb. 8.

As a result, Gasol was forced to miss Memphis' first-round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs, as well as the Rio Olympics as a member of the Spanish men's national team, which still managed to capture a bronze medal without his services.

He recently returned to Memphis for strength and conditioning after spending most of the summer in his home country doing his rehab. Gasol has also begun taking part in pickup games, sources told Tillery, with the Grizzlies recently announcing that he'll be a part of a full-team scrimmage on Oct. 1.

Media Day will be held on Sept. 26, while training camp will commence the following day.

In 52 appearances last season, Gasol averaged 16.6 points on 46.4 percent shooting, seven rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.3 blocks in 34.4 minutes.
